Omni Hive Redux - our Culture Night 2015 show
Omni Hive Redux - Culture night 2015 heads up
Omni Hive Redux is a return the to Art Hives' first collaborative work, Omni Hive which incorporated each members' disciplines. This installation had only been previously exhibited once before at last years Culture Night. Now with the addition of two new members Regina Healy and Yvonne Patterson we have decided to exhibit this updated work once more in a new environment, in a radically different space.
Omni Hive Redux features freshly remixed video including new 3d animation and collaged film footage as well as more images of group members's artworks and studio spaces which will be projected onto the ceramic and textile sculptures. An audio piece incorporating manipulated samples of bee noises recorded at aviaries by Dennis Ryan and excerpts from his father’s beekeeping demonstrations will be used to accompany the footage.
There will also be a group exhibition as well as ceramic & felting workshops for all ages (times tbc - see our Facebook event page).

Exhibition at Devanes
We are having an exhibition and events at Devanes in Irishtown during the Clonmel Junction Festival. The exhibition will be on view from Sat 6th July.
Workshops will be facilitated by members of Art Hive and are for children with their parents.
The themes are:
Paper Flowers and Lanterns, A Zoo From Your Hand, and Felt Medallions.
These will take place on Mon 8th, Tue 9th, and Wed 10th of July from 2 until 4pm. There is a charge of €3 per child.
Later on Wednesday, from 6 until 6.30pm, there will be a talk and slide show “Secret Studio”.
Finally, on Sun 14th from 5.00 until 7pm, there will be a Garden Party to launch the Art Hive exhibition. Food will be available.

This Saturday 19th May on National Drawing Day Art Hive are creating an Open Drawing Studio in the South Tipperary Arts Centre. You can drop-in and stay for as long as you want, try out different drawing techniques, have access to art materials and a variety of subject matter. All welcome, beginners and experienced.
You can avail of one-to-one guidance from professional artists or work away on you own.

Projection painting at the Solar space Cafe
My aim for the cafe was to direct a communal painting, to involve both volunteers & members of the public. I also wanted to see how successfully a computer drawing could be transcribed in the real world in this manner. I was allocated the back wall space in the gallery to do a mural. During prep work I drilled & screwed in various large pieces of cardboard to the wall and coated it all in white primer.
When putting "solar space" into a search engine I found several depictions of a proposed satellite array of solar panels capable of harvesting the sun's energy 24/7. What caught my eye was that the frame of the array was hexagonal; a shape which I felt tied in with our honey-cone logo motif.
I outlined the drawing in charcoal. A table was set up with brushes and paints next to the wall. Some of the volunteers helped paint in the outlines prior to and during the first day of the festival.

I made a simplified abstracted version of the solar panel array in a
vector drawing format and had it printed onto acetate. This was laid on
the projector. Once the projected image's size and placing on the wall
were determined satisfactorily the acetate was sellotaped down and the
projector's degree of magnification, its position and angle were marked
off with masking tape in order to ensure the projection wasn't moved.
Not only that the table's position and angle the projector rested on
were marked off with masking tape as well.
