Omni Hive - our Culture night 2014 show

Omni Hive, a pop-up exhibition curated by Art Hive was held in the old Nest shop on  27 Mitchel Street, Clonmel from 4 till 9pm.

Participents included both the Art Hive group themselves (Catherine Starling, Ian Mannion, Dennis Ryan, Violeta Pserackaite, Laima Bujak) and guest artists Brigid Teehan, Lyn Mather and Aisling Egan. Exhibits were varied, covering a wide range of styles and mediums.

Omni Hive itself was the title of Art Hives' first collaborative work, incorporating each members' disciplines. It consisted of several suspended white textile panels woven and stitched by Catherine Starling and Violeta Pserackaite, with pale ceramic pieces hung in front on knotted string. Dennis Ryan a ceramicist, cast the pieces from everyday commercial packaging molds provided by Ian Mannion (an inspirational source for him).

 A video composited from film footage and images of group member's art and studio spaces was projected onto the installation. A parade of imagery, of lights and shadows was created the public could walk through and interact with.

Avenue festival

The Avenue Festival is Waterford’s inaugural arts venue festival celebrating the wealth and diversity of arts spaces which define the character of the arts in the city. There's going to be a series of staggered openings throughout the week, ours will be on Saturday July 20th 5.00pm in the former Hive Studios, Bank Lane.

 Art Hive's second Christmas Pop-Up show is in the old mobile repair shop on Market Place in Clonmel town.

STAC Gallery Talk

On Saturday 19th June, several artists talked about the work they had on show. Invited artist Etaoin Holahan gave a short history of Endangered Studios, a group run on similar ethos to ours in Co. Kilkenny. This was followed by an open discussion on the creative uses for empty commercial spaces chaired by members of ArtHive.

South Tipperary Arts Centre Exhibition

Our 2nd group show is open from 3rd June until the end of June courtesy of STAC, Clonmel's local arts centre. STAC is a long established art gallery so the artists didn't have to worry about preparing the space, making this a more conventional exhibition.

The shows' opening was listed in an event page in Facebook as well as being promoted by the arts centre. It helped bring in a large crowd for the opening and for the duration of the show.

Xmas Pop-Up Exhibition 2009

Art Hive members organised a pop-up Christmas Exhibition in former clothes shop Chess Clothing, a now vacant unit in Market Place, Clonmel. In its short duration it received good local press attention and over 100 people visited the show over 4 days with a database of interested viewers gathered.

The disused shop space was let rent free to us by the property owners. It was arranged by Pat Quirke from P. F. Quirke & Company Ltd a firm of auctioneers and estate agents based in Clonmel. The source photo of the venue used in the flyer is taken from PF.Quirke and Co's website, pfq.ie. Pat Quirke has kindly posted about the exhibition along with some choice photos on his property matters blog.

This was our first group exhibition. In the spirit of the season that was in it Art Hive donated a percentage of  the proceeds to Cuan Saor a local Women´s Refuge and Support Centre .
